About PaperCrease

A workshop that treats folds as structural engineering.

We are paper engineers, die-makers, and finishing specialists. We transform flat artwork into living, breathing three-dimensional experiences — and we do it in runs small enough that every unit is opened by hand before it ships.

Our position

Between the material's limits and the magic we promise.

Most print vendors treat finishing as decoration applied at the end. We treat it as part of the structure: an emboss changes fibre tension, a die-cut removes rigidity where a pop-up spread needs it most, and a foil block will lift from a crease if the fold crosses it at the wrong angle.

That is why our engineers and our finishers sit at the same bench. The person choosing the mechanism is the person who knows what the press can hold in register.

How we work

Three commitments we don't bend.

The dummy is the contract

No mechanism goes to tooling without a hand-built white dummy signed off at full size. Renders hide fold fatigue; paper does not.

Tooling is an investment, not a line item

We cut brass emboss dies and steel rule formes to be re-run. Repeat editions cost less because the tooling is already true.

Finish restraint

One foil hit placed well beats four competing for attention. We will argue for fewer passes if the sheet reads better without them.

Studio history

From two benches to a finishing floor.

  1. 2014

Studio founded as a two-bench bindery producing hand-cut pop-up spreads for independent publishers.

  2. 2017

First in-house platen press for foil stamping and blind embossing; steel rule tooling brought under one roof.

  3. 2020

Specialty paper library formalised — 180 stocks catalogued by grain, caliper, and crease-recovery behaviour.

  4. 2023

Laser department added for filigree below 0.6 mm, paired with rotary die-cutting for envelope volume.
